Real NC Wedding : Vicky & Grayson By Vesic Photography
After spending the past two weekends in the Washington, DC area, it was nice to be back in North Carolina for Vicky and Grayson’s fantastic mid-May wedding at Duke Chapel and The Carolina Inn. A splendidly elegant couple with an equally elegant wedding made this wedding so much fun to photograph.
I set our introductory image as one from the first dance because I think it really embodies Grayson’s & Vicky’s personalities and style. Fluid, elegant, loving – Vicky’s posture is perfect, and her dress couldn’t flow any better if you staged it. Grayson’s is the perfect lead and just enough light from one of the spotlights to show a soft smile. Rick Bryda did an excellent job with the spotlights as you see can by the shadows on the ground. Note the guests’ silhouettes as well as the light from the videographer – it all adds the perfect mood to this very symmetrical photo.
Going back to the start of the day, everyone got ready at The Carolina Inn. That second photo is showing Vicky’s necklace on her wedding shoes. It was nice how the lines all matched up. The fourth photo is from a small series of Vicky holding the hand of her bridesmaid. Simply a great moment between friends, and just lasted about 20 seconds. There are so many moments at a wedding which last 5, 10, 20 seconds, and happen within a lot of commotion.
This is what wedding photography is all about. While the bridesmaids got ready at the Carolina Inn, Vicky put her dress on in the waiting chambers of Duke Chapel. We got some great images throughout, and perhaps my favorite is one from a series where the girls are coming from the back to the front for their photo session before the ceremony. Vicky leading her bridesmaids, her mom holding her dress up, the smiles – it’s just a perfect moment.
Duke Chapel of course is spectacular and really speaks for itself. After the ceremony and some family photos on the steps, we went with the Bridal Party to Duke Gardens for about 45 minutes. Mixing in some one-on-one photos and some bridal party photos we were able to get some very nice images. Keep an eye for the black and white image of Vicky holding Grayson’s face just before a kiss. It is like they’re alone; no one else exists. But all around us people are enjoying the park, even another bridal party is close by. The image has such impact l because they could care less about any of that. They’re in their own world, and it shows.
Coming back to the Carolina Inn, we should note what an incredible job was done creating this wonderland of white, glass, and flowers. Everything from the white leather couches to the custom plates and table linens; it was really something to experience. Combine that with the custom lighting, the gorgeous flowers, the knock you down music from, and the expert videography by Daniel and Kevin of Heartstone Films, a delicious cake and you had a perfect wedding event. The reception photos give a great sense of the mix of intense fun and dancing along with some great emotions which played throughout the night.
A truly great wedding I was so happy to be a part of. Cheers Vicky & Grayson! Hooman
