Real NC Wedding : Stacy & Mickey by An Elegant Winter Wedding at the Biltmore Estate
Each story that we receive in our inbox has a special piece that captures our attention and this one is no exception. Mickey and Stacy’s fighting love story continues on after they said their vows at the Biltmore Estate in January. Blue Bend Photography of Asheville, NC captured the elegant winter event. You will see how much joy this couple felt during this celebration when you see their photos and hear their story. Read on to hear how Stacy and Mickey’s love grew out of friendship and then how they didn’t let Stacy’s battle with Fibromyalgia get in the way of their love for each other! Congratulations to Stacy + Mickey!
Stacy and Mickey met while attending East Carolina University, but it wasn’t love at first sight. It wasn’t until they became close friends that they realized they were meant to be. After they started dating, Stacy was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and she had to leave her job working for the Department of Defense and move back in with her parents. Mickey surprised her with dinner at the restaurant where they had their first date, the Silver Lake Restaurant in Wilson, NC. He proposed and Stacy said it was so special because even at her worst, he still wanted to marry her. Mickey’s love for Stacy brought out the truth in the statement, “in sickness and in health.”
After their engagement, Stacy and Mickey started the planning process for their big day. The couple lives in Raleigh but they decided they wanted a destination-type wedding. Since they wanted to have a winter wedding, they couldn’t think of a better place than the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Stacy researched each vendor and planned for almost two years to make sure everything was exactly the way she envisioned it. She thought the Biltmore Estate had just the elements they were looking for to complement their theme of winter elegance. She set her wedding colors to be silver, gold, and ivory, so that the celebration would have that wintery feel she was looking for.
Stacy wanted to add a personal touch to her special day by adding a unique item – a little pink hippopotamus- to her décor in memory of one of her best friends: Kimberly Sibbach. Kimberly passed away from breast cancer at the age of 26 in 2011. Kim loved hippos and her friends were able to honor her memory by taking pictures of the “hippo” at various places or important events. The hippo was pictured at the wedding in the Photo Booth, looking out the telescope, and sitting at the family picture table.
Stacy used Weddings-Magazine during her two-year engagement for inspiration. She said she had every issue during the two-year period by her side during the planning process. She loved looking at the magazine for inspiration for her centerpieces and floral arrangements.
