Splendid Shower: Inspired By The Sea
When you work for a wedding magazine some of the area’s most breathtaking events come across your desk. So when Weddings Magazine publisher, Robyn Mangrum, learned that our very own art director, Stephanie Stephens was engaged she knew that she wanted to throw a very special wedding shower for her.
Since Stephanie was getting married on the North Carolina coast, Robyn took her design inspiration from the sea. She hosted the event at Raleigh’s Second. She chose a pale blue, chocolate brown and silver color palette for the tables.
Robyn took her cue from Stephanie’s love of simple, sophisticated design and selected beautiful blue glassware, square silver chargers, square white china, white chivari chairs, silver chair sashes and blue taffeta linens from Special Event Rentals. Each guest’s place setting was marked by a place card shell custom made by An Elegant Affair. The name cards had a special fortune written inside for each guest.
Michael McLamb from Fleurtations Weddings & Events designed a centerpiece of orange calla lilies with floating candles and shells and decorated the chair backs with sprigs ofseagrass to evoke the ocean theme.
The sea also inspired the menu. The ten guests enjoyed a Belhaven lump crabmeat salad with plum tomato confit and haricot verts. That was followed by a roasted North Carolina Black Grouper with creamy yellow stone ground. Guests sipped champagne and Bloody Marys and enjoyed laughter and conversation. At the end of a wonderful event, they enjoyed a piece of pale blue cake with fondant shells.
