“The enchanting atmosphere created for Kate and Steve’s wedding perfectly suited their romantic love story, and brought them back to where it all began: at Duke University. Though they lived several states apart, fate brought Kate and Steve together after meeting at Duke Law School while Kate was in town visiting a friend. Kate went back home to New Orleans, and Steve soon followed, making this long distance love story even more special.
They married on an early April day at Duke Chapel, with the soft pink cherry blossoms in full bloom. After sharing an intimate first look at the Washington Duke Inn, Kate and Steve rode together to the chapel, where the romantic ambience of white lilies and the soft tinkling of tiny bells set the stage for a lovely ceremony.
The Victorian themed atmosphere of the reception at the Washington Duke Inn was brought to life with linens by Classic Party Rentals in shades of blush and pale green, pearl and lace overlays, large floral arrangements of hydrangea and Amaranthus, and decorative elements that included iron stands, bottle vases and antique books. The unique centerpieces included terrariums with Lilly of the Valley and hydrangea. Florals were designed by Ruth Payne of Fleuressence, an amazing Raleigh Wedding Florist, who’s work has graced the pages of Weddings Magazine for years.
Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and a dinner course that included Creamy Goat Cheese Stone Grits in a Trinity Gravy, followed by a Field Greens Salad and a plated dinner duet of Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Wild Striped Sea Bass in a Red Miso Broth, with catering provided by the all-inclusive wedding venue, The Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club.
The couple had the chance to show off their wild side at the reception as New Orleans style music played while the newlyweds made their grand entrance, and guests danced until midnight to the sounds of the Heather Hayes Experience. Guests waved them off with personalized New Orleans handkerchiefs, which were given as favors – for an unforgettable fairytale ending.” – WM
