Courtney + James Rustic NC Wedding
How did you and your fiancé get engaged?
James asked me to marry me him in Whispering Pines, NC on Thaggard’s Lake. It was the same place we had our first kiss and said our first “I love you”…it was perfect, and I was completely surprised. We decided to go up to the lake house his friend owns, and lets us borrow towards the end of last Summer. I thought it was just going to be one last hoorah before the school year began, boy was I wrong!
Tell us a little about your wedding planning experience – How did you choose your venue/theme/vendors?
As far as the wedding goes, I have a hard time giving our wedding a theme, because I am not the type of girl who adheres to a color scheme or theme. My main focus was on two families becoming one, with little personal touches throughout the wedding that would give our guests a little insight onto where we, and our families, have come from. We chose to get married at James’ parents home out in the rural town of Stedman. The land has been in their family since before the Civil War, and as you can see from the photos is beautiful beyond words.
What were your wedding colors and did you have a theme? How did you make this event personal?
At the gift table we placed framed photographs of our parents and grandparents weddings, as well as old pictures of the original homestead in Stedman. We placed baby and childhood pictures of James and me at the tables in the reception area.
My sister Ally, Maid of Honor, was married in September. She had a beautiful wedding but she was not able to get peonies in her bouquet and was very disappointed. I worked with my florist to have a secret bouquet of pink peonies just for Ally. Ann’s Flower Shop did an amazing job of not only delivering beautiful flowers, but helped to conceal Ally’s bouquet until wedding time. When I brought the bouquet to Ally she was just about beside herself. Terry, did a great job of capturing this with photos! They are some of our favorites!
We also had a couple of other touches that made our wedding incredibly special. From the folks that helped us along the way to including our black lab in the wedding party.
My cousin Dana Dodson Teahan is a make up artist and did make up for me and my bridesmaids completely free of charge.
I had my bouquet wrapped with lace from my Mother’s wedding gown and attached a broach to it that belonged to my Grandmother that passed away a couple of years ago.
Our wedding officiant is a good friend of ours who also played in the band (The Mac & Juice Quartet) during the reception. We have been good friends with the band for a while and James’ cousin is the drummer. We were thrilled when we learned they could play our reception.
James and I are not big fans of cake, so instead we had our good friend Gary Thompson make pie for us. The pie is affectionately called “Boogie Pie” and is a delicious blueberry creamy dessert topped with pecans.
