Real Wedding: Alexa and Magnus – A Halloween Wedding
Alexa and Magnus were married on Halloween weekend in 2016, so they wanted to pay homage to the spooky time of year but didn’t want to turn their wedding into a costume party. Instead, they blended a little glamour with a little gore to create a stunning Halloween wedding. And, of course, there was a monster mash – though there were no Frankensteins in sight!
The ceremony took place at 214 Martin Street, once the historic City Market. It was the perfect setting for an elegant wedding with a spooky edge. The space is stately, but has the long history that often gives rise to ghost stories. Alexa and Magnus were married in front of a dark, stained wall lit with special effects by Show Time Events. Bare branches flickered against the wall, and an iron chandelier covered with spider web hung high above them. Guests sat in relative darkness, with the aisle lit by candles.
Alexa wore a gorgeous mermaid-style gown with a lace halter and crystal embellishments throughout. She carried a small bouquet of black and white blooms. Her bridesmaids wore black dresses and carried blood red bouquets. Alexa’s sister was her maid of honor.
Magnus wore a black suit with a dark grey shirt and blood red ties. They wore matching blood red boutonnieres. Dog Miley was also a part of the ceremony!
The reception was decked out with the same ghoulish décor yet elegant décor. Centerpieces included things like candles, black roses, black feathers, glowing orbs, and black branches. The tables were dressed with black and red linens, and guests received a black masquerade mas at each setting. The lighting remained dim during the reception, with candles in lanterns for ambience.
Once in a Blue Moon Bakery created the unique wedding cake, which was a simple three-tiered design with white frosting. However, the topper was a meat cleaver with the bride and groom’s name engraved on it, and red frosting ran down the side like blood.
After the couple had their first dance, the groom invited his new mother-in-law up to the dance floor for a surprise dance with him. She had stood in during some of the dance lessons for the first dance, so she already knew all the steps. The mother-in-law/son dance was a special surprise to honor their new relationship.Stylus SE provided the entertainment for the evening, and guests danced the night away in style. Stylus SE also facilitated an extreme Rock Paper Scissors competition. The winner won a special gold trophy made by Magnus. The trophy featured a rock, scissors, and paper to reflect the game.
The bride’s father surprised the couple with a special gift: A piece of fabric from the pants that Clyde wore the day that he and Bonnie were apprehended.
The couple made a grand exit down an aisle of glow sticks, and they hopped in a rickshaw to ride downtown for the after party. Dogwood Media captured everything on video, and Holly Parker Photography took all the amazing photos from this Paradigm Shift Event.
