Real NC Wedding: Meggie and Kyle at Country Club of Landfall by Jennifer V Events
Meggie Wehner and Kyle Richard
Meggie Wehner and Kyle Richard met the way a lot of couples do, as students in college. They were both studying at the University of Notre Dame, and crossed paths while they were at a house party. After some flirtatious chatting, Megan and Kyle went on a date and soon started meeting regularly. During their senior year, Kyle won a trip to Cabo San Lucas and took Meggie with him. While sitting on a cliff one evening and watching the sun set over the horizon, Kyle surprised Meggie by popping the question.
In June, they were married in Wilmington, North Carolina where Meggie grew up. Kyle and Meggie exchanged vows at the St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach, which is the church that Meggie attended with her family while growing up. Meggie walked down the aisle wearing a striking Martina Liana dress made of lace, and her bridesmaids wore sea spray-colored gowns. The bride carried a rounded bouquet that included beautiful blooms in shades of white, ivory, blush pink, light peach and dusty grey.
The reception was held at the Country Club of Landfall, and it began with a cocktail hour with an open bar and two signature cocktails. Meggie chose the Oaks Lily as her signature drink, inspired by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, which is where Kyle grew up and where Kyle’s mother hosted Meggie’s bridal shower.
The tables at the reception were decorated with an assortment of glass cylinders with floating candles, rectangular glass vases and cubes of varying sizes. Hydrangeas, peonies, roses, orchids and succulents spilled out of the centerpieces.
Imported cheeses, a charcuterie station and passed hors d’oeuvres including the bride’s favorite: bacon wrapped ocean scallops. The wedding cake was the focal point of the reception décor, and it was a four-tiered white buttercream creation with fresh flowers cascading down the sides. Each layer featured a champagne gold band and pearl border, as well as gold raindrop lines of different lengths. Gold fondant layers with gold flaking around the edge were featured on the base layer.
The couple made their great escape through a tunnel of sparklers into a 1959 white Rolls Royce, ending their special day with a picture perfect getaway.
