Real NC Wedding : Mary Courtney & Kit by Chad Biggs Event Planning & Design at An NC Farm Real Wedding
This first time this gorgeous real NC wedding crossed our desks, we were smitten. Smitten may not even be the right word for it actually more like fell head over heels! Chad Biggs Event Planning & Design took the challenge of taking a serene and natural farm wedding venue and adding the perfect amount of beauty, charm, and personality. We don’t want to hold you up any further – just read on to see the stunning nuptials of Mary Courtney & Kit!!
When Chad Biggs first began designing Mary Courtney and Kit’s wedding ceremony and reception at Claxton Farms, he knew that his first challenge would be to create a space unlike, any other without taking a way from the beautiful venue and surrounding landscape of Asheville, North Carolina. He discovered that, of all of the weddings that had taken place there previously, many of them had the same design themes and details. Step one was to find unique elements that inspired Mary Courtney and had a cohesive look for her wedding décor.
When he presented his vision of the ceremony and reception to Mary Courtney, Chad said “I watched her come to life – her eyes gained interest and her big smile warmed my heart.” Chad added that she seemed both excited and relieved when she realized that he understood her inspiration for the location that she and Kit had chosen.
Their wedding took place on August 30th, 2014, and the weather was more than perfect. The ceremony felt welcoming with vintage doors displaying lush natural wreaths, accented by small white floral accents. Pavilion style seating brought intimacy to a large gathering of loved ones, and two guitarists set the tone for the wedding procession.
The “refined country” look of the groom and groomsmen in slacks and suspenders complemented the airy slate blue dresses on the bridesmaids. The bride wore a gorgeous scalloped lace a-line gown and a delicate flower crown as she walked down the aisle. The couple said their vows in front of a simple wooden cross and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in the background.
As soon as the ceremony ended, the celebration began. Live music from The Rubberband Band filled the air. Chad Biggs and the couple chose unique elements to entertain the guests as well, including horseshoe pits, s’mores by the fire, and a “pie spooning” in place of a traditional cake cutting. The reception was decorated in a way that accented the lush and breathtaking surroundings. Visually interesting centerpieces included flowers and foliage in shades of white and green, flanked by natural moss, cut trees, and stone bird figurines, as well as mercury glass tea lights and lanterns.
Inside the barn, a vast stone mantle was the focal point of the venue space, with layers of tea lights on top, well as inside the fireplace. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Mary Courtney and Kit chose a pie table, with various flavors of pie for guests to enjoy. Various vintage and rustic elements were layered throughout the decor, adding to the thoughtful ambiance of the evening.
The couple and their guests dined on a meal inspired by Southern favorites, accented by international delights including barbequed sliders, Moroccan chicken skewers, build your own potatoes, and Greek spanikopita.
Mary Courtney and Kit, their guests and family never stopped smiling, even as a light rain blessed the couple as they made their way to the getaway Land Rover.
