A Marriage of Tastes: Southern Elegance Meets Cowboy Charm
We are so thrilled to begin sharing the styled shoots from our 2015 issue! If you haven’t had a chance to view the magazine in its entirety, you can find the full edition here!
This gorgeous shoot is the product of two unique styles, coming together in a celebration of marriage. He’s a little bit country, she’s a little bit lace and pearls.
When planning a wedding and the associated festivities, you are not only creating a union between two people, but also marrying their unique personalities. In the case of Brittany and Jeffrey, Cathy Anna Designs wanted to plan a rehearsal dinner that seamlessly blended his cowboy charm and her Southern elegance. The Barn at Woodlake Meadows in Bear Creek was the perfect backdrop to this intimate gathering of friends and family.
Cathy Anna Designs chose a bold color palette of magenta, and burnt orange with gold accents to play on the couple’s big personalities, and contrast the rich wood tones of the venue. Warm colors were present in the bright flower arrangements and décor, including gilded horseshoes as a nod to the groom’s love of barns and horses.
Blossom Floral Artistry designed several fantastic floral arrangements for the rehearsal dinner. An elegant mantelpiece above the fireplace anchored the décor and created a stunning focal point, while sunset-colored tulips, dahlias and magenta roses graced the farm tables in gilded vases. Tea lights arranged around the cozy wooden interior gave the space an intimate and warm ambiance throughout the evening.
Classic Party Rentals of Raleigh provided the rustic farm tables and harvest chairs, which contrasted perfectly with their gold flatware, iridescent wine glasses, gold bubble chargers, and creamy ivory and gold Victorian china. Cathy Anna chose a mix of rustic burlap table runners and rich burnt orange chair ties accented by the golden horseshoes to complement the differing elements that made up the theme of the event.
Desktop Diva Stationery created darling custom invitations, giving the guests a taste of the warmly-hued “country glam” evening that was to come, and Kate Pope Photography was on hand to capture all of the fantastic moments of the evening in preparation for the big day!
A delicious menu conceived by Rocky Top Catering included creative appetizers and gave guests the choice of lamb or salmon entrees. “Crudités shots” were a modern spin on traditional hors d’ouvres, with crisp vegetables resting in a tangy dill sauce. Chicken and waffles with roasted leek goat cheese and honey aioli played on the couple’s Southern roots, while proscuitto-wrapped scallops topped by cantaloupe corn salsa rounded out the first course.
The salad course featured an elegant mixed green salad with “Southern Charm,” featuring grilled peaches, roasted corn, candied pecans (all staples on a Southern table), with lemon-thyme goat cheese and a Dijon vinaigrette. The entrée choices included a beautifully grilled salmon with a crispy jalapeño goat cheese grit-cake, local succotash and creamy tomato caper butter, as well as a grilled rack of lamb with Brussels sprout sautéed in onions and bacon, and silky sweet potato puree topped with Granny Smith apple slaw.
Guests washed down their delectable meals with custom cocktails: ”Southern Bourbon Lemonade” and a “Moonshine Martini, then retreated outdoors for more exciting surprises. A special “countdown” to the big day was showcased above the outdoor fireplace – this customized calendar is a special gift that Cathy Anna Designs creates for all of her happy couples. Along with a custom S’mores bar with all of the fixings, (including three kinds of chocolate, round and square marshmallows, graham crackers and cookies) dessert included beautiful tarts, chocolate covered pretzels, and a stunning “naked cake” by Confectionate Cakes. This captivating sweet treat was flavored in the style of banana bread, with a rich cream cheese icing and topped with sugared seasonal fruit. Beside the spread of delicious of desserts, the couple offered their guests jams and jellies from the Barn at Woodlake Meadows as adorable wedding favors with a darling sign that read “Do us a Favor and Spread the Love!”
Brittany and Jeffrey also treated their friends and family to corn hole with pink and orange corn hole bags, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, and a walk down to the dock to enjoy the sunset with yummy orange and strawberry sodas as they toasted to the joyous celebration of the following day.
